Pelicans of Lake Kerkini

  • Tammy Marlar Photography Lake Kerkini Northern Macedonia Greece (map)

all aboard for a fabulous 5-night trip to Lake Kerkini in Northern Greece, one of the most important wetland AREAS in Europe, to photograph the charismatic Dalmatian Pelican.

During our stay, we’ll have both shoreline and on-board opportunities to shoot close-up, action, flight and landscape pictures of the pelicans (and other wintering birds depending on local conditions). We’ll look at the fundamentals of bird photography, and I’ll provide practical assistance and general advice to help you develop and improve your own skills. The outcome - a wonderful few days immersed in the tranquility and beauty of Lake Kerkini, and a portfolio of fantastic pelican pictures against the stunning backdrop of the lake and the snow-capped Beles mountains.

The cost of this trip is £1350 for 5 nights, 3+ days photography, full board, on a single occupancy basis. A deposit of £350 is required to secure a place. Flights are not included, but there is a recommended flight itinerary from Gatwick - Thessaloniki.

TESTIMONIAls

“Apart from being an outstanding wildlife photographer and journalist, Tammy is a natural leader and a great teacher with a zany sense of humour and bucket-loads of patience and tact.

She certainly needed all of these qualities in agreeing to take me - in my 80th year, with significant physical disabilities and a lot less technically proficient than the other 4 much younger participants - to a remote nature reserve in Northern Greece!  But, having travelled to over 50 countries, and safari’d in at least half as many game parks/ nature reserves, I count my trip to Lake Kerkini as one of the most fun-filled and magical experiences of my whole life. What a wonderfully diverse bunch of crazy enthusiasts you assembled Tammy! I remain eternally grateful to you for convincing me I could do it and to Nikos, our hotelier and boatman, and all my new friends for their amazing help and support throughout.

And wow! Great Greek food and wine plus a huge portfolio of the best bird images I’ve ever taken. What more could one wish for?” David Godfrey, Hampstead, London

Travelling from the US to meet up with Tammy in London (for the red deer) and then spend the week shooting the Dalmatian Pelicans in Greece was amazing! From the day we arrived in London, Tammy was so welcoming. The week in Greece was well-planned and we had amazing opportunities photographing the pelicans. It was a very special trip that I’d love to do again. I am extremely happy with the images I came away with.
